On March 30, local time on March 29, an Israeli official revealed that the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has agreed to an Egyptian proposal to release five detainees in exchange for a 50-day ceasefire starting from Eid al-Fitr (March 30 or 31). The official said that during the ceasefire, the remains of deceased detainees will also be handed over, but did not give a specific number. The official also said that Israel is expected to raise objections to the proposal, and that the two sides are unlikely to reach an agreement before Eid al-Fitr.
