Mr. Bullard, the former head of the St Louis Fed, said he discussed the Fed chairpersonship with Mr. Bescent, the US Treasury secretary, on Wednesday. Mr. Bullard said the central bank must defend the dollar, keep inflation low and protect its independence. He said he was "very interested" in becoming Fed chairperson if eligible.
