He was sentenced to three years in prison, suspended for four years, according to a Tokyo District Court ruling. Prosecutors had asked for a four-year prison sentence. This could be the first time anyone in Japan has been found guilty of misusing generative artificial intelligence. According to the verdict and other sources, around March 31, 2023, Ryuki Hayashi made a ransomware-like virus from his computer and smartphone at his home in Kawasaki. He made the virus using the source code of an illegal computer program obtained by artificial intelligence.
