In an interview broadcast by Bloomberg Businessweek on October 22, Gary Gensler, chairperson of the Securities Exchange Commission, celebrated the 16th anniversary of the Bitcoin white paper (the BTC white paper was released on October 31, 2008) with a "sweet sixteen", but Gensler also said that the SEC will continue its practice of considering the risks of digital assets to investors and "enforcement regulation."
"For 90 years, we have benefited from strong laws enacted by Congress and rules enacted by various agencies that have helped foster markets, protect investors, promote capital formation and the development of middle markets, and we will continue to do so," Mr. Gensler said.
