Telegram is improving compliance and communicating with Kazakh regulators by setting up local offices. The Kazakh Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry announced on October 14 that Telegram has agreed to appoint local representatives and open offices in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Minister Zaslan Madiyev said Telegram's physical presence in the country would be an "important step in strengthening control over the content of messaging platforms".
The move is significant given Telegram's wide reach in the country. According to Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov, 12.50 million Kazakhs (more than half of the country's 20 million population) use Telegram every month, a 25 percent increase from 2023.
