The Palau government has partnered with Japanese fintech company Soramitsu and the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to launch a blockchain-based savings bond prototype system "Palau Invest", which has now completed the prototype and launched a public demonstration system.
Palauans can learn about the system before Palau's Ministry of Finance issues bonds. Once the Ministry of Finance finalizes the bond issuance criteria and is approved by the Palau government, Palau will issue digital savings bonds, which any Palauan citizen can easily purchase on their mobile phone through a mobile app. The savings bond program enables Palau to tap into domestic funds to fund critical projects such as housing, SME development, roads and other essential services.
