South Korea fines Worldcoin Foundation and Tools for Humanity for violating data protection laws

The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) of South Korea has fined Worldcoin Foundation and Tools for Humanity (TFH) for violating personal data protection laws, ZDNet Korea reported on September 26. Worldcoin Foundation was fined 725 million won (approx. $546,000) for mishandling sensitive information and transferring it abroad. Tools for Humanity (TFH) was fined 379 million won (approx. $285,000) for violating local regulations regarding outbound transfers of personal data. The investigation began in February over complaints and reports that Worldcoin was collecting biometric data to provide cryptocurrency services without permission.
