X (formerly Twitter) and Elon Musk are again facing legal action. Three former Twitter executives, Sarah Personette, James Sullivan and Dalana Brand, filed a lawsuit on September 6 in Federal District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging that they were improperly denied more than $53 million in severance packages.
The plaintiffs claim that their duties will "substantially and irreversibly change" following Musk's acquisition, and therefore offer "just cause" to resign and deserve severance compensation. The lawsuit alleges that Musk and Twitter employed dishonest and deceptive tactics to evade their obligations, including abruptly cutting off plaintiffs' access to offices and computer systems, demanding to participate in internal investigations without paying salaries, and abruptly firing them on "just cause" grounds over Thanksgiving weekend.
Each plaintiff is seeking compensation of between $14 million and $21.80 million, along with payments under the restricted stock unit agreement.
