On September 4, a Nigerian court delayed the release on bail of Tigran Gambaryan, the head of financial crime compliance at Binance, who has been detained in the country for more than six months, and US lawmakers say he has been unjustly detained. After hours of arguments in the Nigerian capital Abuja on Wednesday, the presiding judge said a verdict would be handed down at a later date, but did not specify when.
Gambaryan's lawyer, Mark Mordi, told the court that the accused had required surgery since July 18 and required emergency medical attention, but that the Nigerian criminal justice system was unable to provide it. While state prosecutor Ekele Iheanacho argued that Binance executives had received adequate treatment both at the prison hospital and at another facility in Abuja used by senior government officials.
