According to the latest data from HODL15Capital, as of September 1, 2024 Beijing time, BlackRock's IBIT has become the world's largest institutional bitcoin holder, holding 357,509 bitcoins. MicroStrategy surpassed Grayscale's GBTC (225,671) with 226,500 bitcoins, jumping to second place. Fidelity's FBTC ETF ranked fourth with 178,349 bitcoins, and stablecoin giant Tether ranked fifth with 75,354 bitcoins. Other major institutional holders include ARKB with ARK Invest/21 Shares (37,147) and bitcoin miner Marathon Digital (25,000).
Previously, MicroStrategy announced its transformation into a "bitcoin development company" earlier this year, and was the largest known institutional holder of bitcoin ETFs before their emergence.
