The US FTC (FTC) has released data showing a sharp increase in the financial losses suffered by consumers from Bitcoin ATM scams. Since 2020, the amount of this loss has increased nearly tenfold.
The FTC's latest data spotlight states that in the first six months of 2024 alone, Bitcoin ATM scams caused more than $65 million in fraud losses. Notably, the elderly over 60 are more than three times as likely to be harmed by these scams as young adults. Looking at the full year, consumers reported an average loss of $10,000 in the first half of this year.
