Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has proposed a new computing model called the "glue and coprocessor architecture," which aims to significantly improve technical efficiency and security. He detailed the benefits of the architecture in a blog post on September 2, dividing computing tasks into two categories: flexible general-purpose "glue" components and efficient dedicated "coprocessors."
Vitalik pointed out that this separation allows routine operations to be handled in an adaptive environment, while intensive tasks are done by dedicated hardware, thus optimizing overall performance. He specifically mentioned that the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and artificial intelligence (AI) fields could benefit from this, for example, increasing the efficiency of Ethereum by handling structured operations with dedicated modules, and processing complex AI models on GPUs or ASICs with optimized code.
In addition, Vitalik sees promising applications for the architecture in cryptography and open-source hardware, such as RISC-V chips, to improve security and lower barriers to entry. His proposal is expected to foster technological innovation, bring more efficient and secure solutions to computing, and lower barriers to entry for smaller technology companies.
