Derivatives marketplace CME Group announced today that it will further expand its cryptocurrency derivatives offering with the launch of Bitcoin Friday Futures (BFF) on September 30, subject to regulatory review. These new weekly futures contracts, which are one-fiftieth the size of one bitcoin, will be cash settled every Friday at 4:00 p.m. New York time at the CME CF Bitcoin Reference Exchange Rate New York Variable (BRRNY). The new BFF contracts will be available every Thursday at 6:00 p.m. New York time with a trading date of Friday, allowing market participants to trade the last two Fridays at any given point in time. Friday expiration allows these contracts to closely track the spot price of bitcoin and help investors cushion themselves from price volatility over the weekend.
