On August 17, according to the Taiwan Meteorological Department's Earthquake Forecasting Center, at 21:10 on the 17th, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred off the coast of Yilan County. The epicenter was 37.0 kilometers southeast of Yilan, with a focal depth of 10.6 kilometers. It was a very shallow earthquake. The maximum magnitude was 4, and it was felt in many places across Taiwan.
