Former Google CEO: While much of Google's historical infrastructure has benefited from open source, the latter has struggled to afford the high costs of the AI industry

Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google, said at the computer school conference at Stanford University that although open source is good, and most of Google's historical infrastructure has also benefited from open source, the cost of the AI industry is too high for open source to afford, and the French model Mistral, which he invested in, will switch to a closed-source route.
Eric Schmidt also believes that AI will make the rich richer and the poor poorer. This is a game between powerful countries. Countries without technical resources need to get tickets to join the supply chain of powerful countries, otherwise they will miss the feast. AI chips are high-end manufacturing, with high output value, but they are unlikely to generate employment. Chip manufacturing plants are full of mechanized production and do not need people, so don't expect a manufacturing renaissance.
