Temperatures have soared to 113 degrees Fahrenheit (45 degrees Celsius) in parts of Iran, putting pressure on the power grid, according to Iranian news outlet Iran International. The chief executive of the country's state-run electricity company, Tavanir, claims that 230,000 illegal crypto mining rigs have been discovered, consuming up to 900 trillion watts of electricity - which he says is equivalent to the electricity consumption of a province in Iran with 1.40 million residents. Crypto miners have added to the pressure on the power grid.
Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, chief executive of Tavanir, said: "Individuals who report each unauthorised cryptocurrency mining device will receive a reward of 1 million Toman ($24)."
