Canadian cryptocurrency exchange ezBtc and its founder David Smillie misappropriated about 13 million Canadian dollars (9.50 million dollars) of cryptocurrency investments and used the funds for gambling.
A panel set up by Canada's provincial regulator, the British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC), found that ezBt misappropriated client funds "for its own purposes." The ezBtc platform, which went offline permanently around September 2019 and disbanded in 2022, claimed to store all of its users' cryptocurrency investments in cold wallets.
