Two US senators have introduced a bill aimed at expanding the powers of the Secret Service to combat cryptocurrency-related crimes. Charles Grassley, CatherineCortezMasto from Nevada and Iowa, respectively, recently introduced the "Combating Cybercrime Money Laundering Act of 2024", which would expand the powers of the Secret Service to investigate cryptocurrency transactions conducted by unlicensed money transfer businesses, as well as potential fraud against the US Financial Institution Group. "Funding criminal activity through digital assets poses a direct threat to the security of our nation," Cortez Masto said in stressing the importance of the bill. Grassley said that enhanced threat assessment is needed to catch "dirty financial businesses" that facilitate money laundering schemes.
