Democratic Congressman: Cryptocurrency Regulation Should Not Be a "Partisan Political Game"

On July 29th, according to CNBC, with the growing influence of cryptocurrency lobbyists and supporters in Washington, questions have been raised as to whether the Democratic Party will stick to the tough regulatory stance of the past few years or relax it. In an interview, Rep. Wiley Nickel, D-N.C., said that every presidential candidate needs to recognize that voters who support digital assets and innovation cannot be ignored, and stressed that cryptocurrency regulation should not become a "partisan political game." Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., also said that cryptocurrencies should not be the focus of partisan debate, but need to be regulated like other technologies. He noted, "Opposing Bitcoin is like opposing cell phones, artificial intelligence and laptops. It's a technology and there needs to be thoughtful regulation." Khanna and Nickel were among the few Democratic lawmakers attending the Bitcoin conference.
