India plans to release a cryptocurrency discussion paper in response to the G20 countries' support for the guidelines of the international monetary fund (IMF) and the Financial Stability Board (FSB) during India's G20 presidency last year. The cryptocurrency discussion paper is being developed by an inter-ministerial group comprising members of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and is expected to be ready by September.
In an interview with Moneycontrol, Indian Economic Affairs Minister Ajay Seth said the discussion document will include recommendations on how to regulate cryptocurrencies in India, which are currently only regulated by anti-money laundering (AML) and electronic funds transfer (EFT) laws.
