On July 18th, CCData reported that the trading volume of centralized cryptocurrency exchanges fell by 21.8% in June, which is the third consecutive month of declining spot and derivatives trading volume since March. The total volume of spot and derivatives trading on all centralized exchanges in June was $4.20 trillion, down 53% from the record of $9 trillion set at the end of March.
The report noted that unpositioned squaring contracts on crypto derivatives exchanges fell sharply by 9.7% as a series of liquidations triggered by the sharp drop in bitcoin and other crypto asset prices in June. Total futures volume on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), the world's largest institutional derivatives exchange, also fell "significantly", falling 11.5% to $103 billion in June.
