高盛集团策略师Scott Rubner表示，标普500指数在现在水平除了下跌没有其他路可走。他警告说，“我不会逢低买入。”这位高盛全球市场部门董事总经理援引追溯至1928年的数据表示，这是因为本周三、也就是7月17日，在历史上是股市回报率的转折点，然后接下来的8月，通常是资金从被动型股票和共同基金外流最严重的月份。季节性因素不利、仓位过度以及所有利好消息都已被市场消化，都令标普500指数处于夏季回调的边缘。这也是至少从6月初以来高盛交易部门一直倾向的观点。Rubner在周三给客户的报告中写道：“从这里开始，痛苦交易不再是上涨。”
