On July 16th, Swiss blockchain venture capital agency CV VC released its latest report on venture capital in Africa. The report states that Africa received $34.70 million in investment in the first half of 2024, a 74% year-on-year decrease compared to $135.40 million in 2023.
Although funding was lackluster, the report said the number of deals in the region rose by 9%.
Overall, global blockchain funding has also seen a significant decline. The sector raised $10.66 billion in the first half of 2023, yet raised only $5.74 billion in the same period in 2024, a 64% year-on-year decrease, the report said. There were only 678 deals in 2024, also a 49% decrease compared to 1,306 deals in the same period in 2023.
