According to an article posted on Weibo by Observer Network, a 42 year old Chinese British woman named Jian Wen was found guilty of participating in money laundering by a British court on May 18th and will be sentenced on May 10th. The police stated that during the investigation, over 61000 Bitcoins worth approximately £ 3.4 billion were seized, making it the largest cryptocurrency ever seized. These funds were allegedly obtained from fraudulent groups deceiving nearly 130000 Chinese investors between 2014 and 2017. Yan Lixin, a professor at the School of International Finance at Fudan University and Executive Director of the China Anti Money Laundering Research Center, commented to Fenghuang.com's "Storm Eye" that the actual implementation difficulties of the case, especially the ownership and disposal of Bitcoin, lie in international coordination and cooperation in anti money laundering. The Chinese government, judicial authorities, and police will not sit idly by and have the right to pursue and recover the stolen goods in this case. The British side should cooperate and support because both parties are members of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and must abide by common rules.
