Katherine Dowling, chief commercial officer at Bitwise, said the spot Ethereum ETF was "close to the finish line", while noting that the SEC was "very welcoming" to discussions about other products. Dowling told Bloomberg that the SEC and ETF issuers are addressing fewer and fewer issues with each S-1 amendment, indicating that the launch date is getting closer.
Mr. Dowling affirmed SEC chairperson Gary Gensler's statement that the agency would approve issuers' registration statements in full over the summer, but gave an open timeframe. Mr. Dowling said Bitwise intended to differentiate itself from other applicants, including giants such as BlackRock and Fidelity, as a "crypto expert" who had focused on the field for years.
Bitwise filed its latest revisions on July 3, while many other applicants did so before the July 8 deadline. Applicants must still add certain details, including sponsor fees, to future revisions.
