Putin holds meeting to discuss short- and medium-range missile production and deployment

On June 29th, local time on June 28th, the Kremlin released the news that Russian President Vladimir Putin convened the Standing Committee of the Federal Security Council by video on the same day to discuss issues related to the production and deployment of short- and medium-range missile systems. Putin said that the United States withdrew from the INF Treaty under false pretenses a few years ago and announced that it would produce related missile systems. Russia announced in 2019 that it would not produce and deploy short- and medium-range missiles unless the United States deployed short- and medium-range missile systems in a certain region of the world. It is now known that the United States is not only producing these missile systems, but has also shipped them to Denmark in Europe for military exercises. It was not long ago that it was reported that the Philippines also has a US missile system. Mr. Putin stressed that, in any case, Russia needed to react and decide on the next steps.
