Zcash activated the Ironwood NU6.3 network upgrade at block height 3,428,143 and launched a new shielded pool. According to Odaily, the upgrade is designed to enhance network security and allow the circulating supply of ZEC to be independently verified.
After the upgrade, the previous Orchard pool was restricted, with no new funds allowed to enter. Existing funds must move out through a turnstile before re-entering Ironwood, which is intended to ensure at the protocol level that pool spending does not exceed verifiable income. Ironwood is based on a revised protocol that has been formally verified and independently audited, and it is designed to prevent risks similar to a previously disclosed Orchard vulnerability.
