Zcash activated the Ironwood NU6.3 network upgrade at block height 3,428,143, introducing a new shielded pool aimed at improving network security and enabling independently verifiable ZEC circulating supply. According to ChainCatcher, the upgrade restricts the previous Orchard pool so no new funds can enter, while existing funds must exit through a turnstile before re-entering Ironwood.
The protocol is designed to ensure pool spending does not exceed verifiable income. It is based on a revised protocol that has been formally verified and independently audited to reduce the risk of issues similar to the earlier Orchard disclosure vulnerability. Wallets supporting Ironwood, including Zodl 3.8.0, have already provided a migration path that lets users move Orchard funds to the new pool without changing addresses.
