Blockaid said in a security report released Tuesday that the crypto industry lost more than $1 billion to theft in the first half of 2026, with 212 security incidents recorded during the period. According to ChainCatcher, that was the highest number of hacker incidents in any six-month period, while verified critical vulnerabilities reached 3.4 times the full-year total for 2025.
The report said the largest single attack targeted KelpDAO, with losses of $292 million. Ethereum and Solana were the most heavily affected networks, with losses of about $332 million and $326 million, respectively.
Blockaid said Ethereum incidents were mainly driven by code vulnerabilities affecting high-value applications, including key-leak cases involving Humanity Protocol and StablR. Solana's losses rose sharply from about $127 million in 2025, but more than 98% came from key leaks rather than smart contract flaws, with Drift Protocol and Step Finance among the main targets. Blockaid linked those attacks to North Korea-related hacking groups.
