Republican lawmaker Jodey Arrington introduced the Applying Existing Tax Anti-Abuse Rules to Digital Assets Act in June to extend wash sale rules to digital assets. According to Foresight News, the U.S. Treasury estimated in 2024 that closing the loophole could add nearly $24 billion in tax revenue over 10 years.

Experts said the move suggests potential bipartisan momentum in tax reform, although they see little chance of the legislation passing in the near term.
