Amazon is overhauling its artificial intelligence strategy, phasing out many internal models and reorganizing teams, according to people familiar with the matter. According to Odaily, the company is concentrating engineers and limited computing resources on a new approach aimed at competing in frontier AI.
People familiar with the matter said Amazon is gradually stopping work on most of its flagship models, including the Premier and Omni models, the Reel video generation model, and the Canvas image generation model. Some employees described the models as being in a “KTLO” state, meaning they are maintained at a basic level. Resources are also shifting away from the existing Nova models toward a new frontier project led by researcher Pete Abbeel, internally called Frontier Model Research. Amazon is developing a new flagship foundation model that is expected to be unveiled at its annual re:Invent conference this fall.
