Yemen Government Says Houthis May Control Bab el-Mandeb Amid Tensions

Yemen's government said the Houthis may "follow Iran's example" and try to control the Bab el-Mandeb, one of the Middle East's key energy transport routes, while Yemen's government said it is prepared for a possible escalation. According to Jin10, Yemen's incoming Foreign Minister Afra Juba told reporters at the Yemeni embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that the Houthis were trying to control the Bab el-Mandeb by following Iran's strategy in the Strait of Hormuz. The Houthis said the Bab el-Mandeb has not been closed and that the recently announced maritime blockade measures are "only aimed at Saudi Arabia."
