Oman Proposes Joint Regional Mechanism to Manage Strait of Hormuz

Gulf sources said Oman has proposed a common regional mechanism for managing the Strait of Hormuz and collecting voluntary fees. According to Odaily, the proposal is based on the Strait of Malacca model, under which parties that use the waterway would contribute voluntarily to navigation safety, environmental protection, and search-and-rescue operations. The proposal has received regional support, and Iran would not control the Strait of Hormuz alone under the plan.
