STOCKS | South Korean Retail Investors Shift to U.S. Stocks as Market Slump Continues

South Korean domestic investors returned to U.S. stocks as weakness in the local market continued, with net buying this month topping 5 trillion won. According to Jin10, data from the Korea Securities Depository's Seibro portal showed domestic investors in South Korea bought a net $3.58999 billion of U.S. stocks from July 1 to 27, about 5.5 times June's full-month net buying.

Net buying was $2.53026 billion through July 23, then increased by $1.05973 billion over the next two trading days. Retail funds were mainly concentrated in semiconductors and technology stocks. The most net-bought product this month was the Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull 3X ETF, which tracks the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, with net buying of $1.75919 billion. SK Hynix ADRs also remained popular, with net buying rising to $812.38 million by July 27.
