According to CNBC, Jim Cramer said Nvidia's discussions over a $250 billion backstop for OpenAI revive memories of the excesses that fueled the dot-com bubble. He said the structure of the arrangement, which would help finance a planned 10-gigawatt AI data center campus in Ohio, reminded him of late-1990s telecom deals in which suppliers helped customers fund large purchases. Nvidia declined to comment, and shares of the chipmaker fell more than 4% on Monday. Cramer said he is not predicting a repeat of the dot-com crash, but warned that investors can lose confidence quickly when suppliers rely on customers whose spending depends on access to capital.
