According to Jin10, Timo Vauri, director of international trade and trade policy at the Confederation of Finnish Industries, said on July 27 that the United States has not fully fulfilled its obligations under the International Labour Organization framework, yet is raising tariffs on other economies in the name of “forced labor,” showing a double standard. He said the Trump administration has searched for a legal basis for unilateral tariff hikes, ultimately invoking a decades-old law from the 1970s, and called the move absurd. Vauri said the tariff policy has posed severe challenges for Finland’s steel and pharmaceutical industries, damaged global trade relations, and created more uncertainty for the global economy and corporate operations. He also said trade wars cannot be won with tariffs and that U.S. consumers will ultimately pay the cost.
