Lido has started its largest upgrade since V2 in 2023, moving more than 8 million stETH to a new validator architecture after Ethereum's Pectra upgrade. The update is expected to cut the total number of validators by about one-third and reduce witness messages per epoch by about 29%.
According to PANews, the upgrade is designed to lower consensus-layer load but will not directly affect gas fees or transaction speed. It will also move Lido's 34 professional node operators to Curated Module v2 and require them to stake ETH as collateral for the first time, using their own funds to take economic responsibility for node performance and security.
Lido said the migration is expected to slightly reduce the protocol's overall annualized staking yield by about 0.28%.
