MAS Slightly Lifts Singapore Dollar Appreciation Slope As Core Inflation Is Seen Rising

Singapore's Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said on July 27 that it slightly increased the appreciation slope of the Singapore dollar nominal effective exchange rate band, with the width and midpoint unchanged. According to 36Kr, MAS said April's policy tightening and the Singapore dollar's gains over the past few quarters have helped ease inflation, but external price pressures are still expected to persist and feed into local prices. MAS projected core inflation to rebound from July and remain elevated until early 2027, and said it chose a faster pace of currency appreciation to curb imported inflation.
