According to Axios, Digital Realty is planning a Digital Dulles campus near Ashburn, Virginia, that could eventually include 13 data centers and require more than $10 billion of investment over the next decade. The company also opened an innovation lab in Northern Virginia in September to let customers, lawmakers and journalists see how data centers work, and it opened a similar lab in London in June. Axios said the campus will likely use cooling that relies more on energy than water, avoiding the large cooling towers seen at some other facilities, and one building had nearly 40 diesel generators attached for backup power and testing. Digital Realty is also considering additional innovation labs in Singapore, São Paulo and Johannesburg.
