According to CNBC, demand for Imax 70 mm screenings of Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' has surged, with adult opening-weekend tickets averaging $27.77, or 81% more than the average cost of admission across formats. Imax CEO Richard Gelfond said on a conference call that an average 70 mm-equipped screen generated $153,000 in box office during opening weekend, and that the film will run for months. Imax lists 25 U.S. theaters and 16 international locations showing the format, while Cinemark said demand in states including Colorado and Texas is exceptionally strong and Regal said the film became its top Imax 70 mm title. The Indiana State Museum's Imax 70 mm theater added an extra week in August due to historic demand, and Imax said it sold more than 10,000 collectible popcorn buckets tied to the film.
