According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Xinhua and Reuters, the Saudi Arabia-led coalition said on Saturday (July 25) that it carried out strikes on Houthi military targets in Yemen's Hodeidah province in response to recent Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. The coalition said the strikes were aimed at military targets directly linked to the Houthi maritime threat, not Hodeidah port, which remained open, while airport flights were also unaffected.
The coalition said it would continue to take all necessary action to protect shipping safety and safeguard Saudi Arabia's national interests, and would respond if the Houthis continued hostile acts. Al Masirah TV, which is affiliated with the Houthis, reported that the target was facilities of the state telecommunications company in Hodeidah city, and said Saudi forces also struck Kamaran island off Yemen's west coast. The coalition said the strikes came after the Houthis attacked a Saudi airport and announced a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia.
