According to Axios, House Republicans narrowly approved a budget framework 216-214 on Wednesday to begin work on a planned $95 billion reconciliation package. The measure was opposed by Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Warren Davidson of Ohio, all Democrats, and GOP-turned-independent Rep. Kevin Kiley of California.
The package includes $73 billion for the Iran war, $12 billion in farm aid and a $10 billion fund to encourage states to adopt parts of the SAVE America Act. Lawmakers remain concerned about the lack of spending offsets and disagreements over enforcement provisions for the election bill, while President Trump and administration officials pressed House Republicans to support the resolution ahead of the vote. Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota said the reconciliation framework would be held as a potential backup plan to help avoid a government shutdown at the end of September.
