Waymo Plans Standalone App Launches In Austin And Atlanta In January 2028

According to CNBC, Waymo told Uber that it plans to launch its own app in Austin and Atlanta in January 2028 while continuing its existing deployment with Uber. An Uber spokesperson said hundreds of Waymo robotaxis will remain available through Uber in both cities at least through May 2028, when the current contract ends, and that Uber will be able to add other autonomous vehicles to its platform there. Waymo said riders need more choice in how they use the technology. Uber shares fell more than 4% after the report that Waymo had internal discussions about whether to split from Uber amid tensions between the companies.
