According to Jin10, people familiar with the matter said the Trump administration and Venezuelan officials are discussing ways to unfreeze billions of dollars in frozen overseas assets to help Venezuela recover from two earthquakes while avoiding additional costs for U.S. taxpayers. The plan is intended to help the Venezuelan government rebuild its economy without Washington spending more than the $386 million it has already pledged. Venezuela still cannot access billions of dollars through the International Monetary Fund, the Bank of England, or overseas accounts holding assets such as gold.
