The U.S. Treasury Department issued its semiannual foreign-exchange report in Washington on Thursday and warned that the yen remains persistently weak. According to Jiemian News, the report cited Treasury data showing that from the end of 2011 to the end of April 2026, the yen fell about 51% on both a real effective exchange-rate basis and against the U.S. dollar, leading the Treasury to conclude that the currency is "significantly undervalued."
