Anthropic has upgraded Claude’s voice mode, allowing paid users to choose Opus, Sonnet, or Haiku instead of being limited to the faster but less capable Haiku model. According to ChainCatcher, users can switch models during a conversation, return to text at any time, and Claude will default to the model last used in text chat while calling the fastest version in the lineup.

The voice mode can also connect to Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Slack, letting users ask Claude to check email, update schedules, or draft replies after requesting authorization. The new version is now available for testing on mobile, desktop, and web. Free users can access only Haiku and one connected tool.

The voice feature currently supports multiple languages including English, Japanese, and Korean, but not Chinese. Anthropic said the update mainly improves model reasoning and tool-use capabilities, and it did not replace the voice model, so naturalness and interruption handling may not change significantly.
