Ruben Gallego Says Democrats Will Counter CLARITY Act Ethics Draft

Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego said he will work with Republicans on a counterproposal to the White House-approved ethics provisions in the CLARITY Act, saying the draft released this week was “not a serious effort.” The remarks came after Senate Republicans on Wednesday released proposed text for the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act that included ethics language barring all US federal officials, including U.S. President Donald Trump, from issuing or sponsoring any digital asset. Democrats said the provisions fall short, while Republican Senator Bernie Moreno described the draft as containing “the most powerful ethics language in US history.” According to Cointelegraph, Gallego criticized the Republican-backed draft in comments to Politico on Thursday, saying it did not reflect the months of work both parties had done on the legislation.

Gallego said he would continue working with Senator Thom Tillis and other Republicans to produce revised language. He said the effort is still ongoing and that Democrats intend to send back their own proposal. “We are still in this fight,” Gallego told Politico. “We are going to send back language.”
