Six women in the United States have sued Unilever, alleging that after using TRESemmé shampoo or conditioner they suffered hair loss, thinning hair, allergic reactions and other scalp side effects. Jiemian News reported that the plaintiffs say the brand's DMDM hydantoin preservative caused the problems and that Unilever knew about the risk despite a similar controversy more than a decade ago. The report also said TRESemmé, known in Chinese as Xuan Shi, has entered China and was previously endorsed by singer Li Yuchun and actress Jiang Xin. JD Worldwide customer service said the products it sells do not contain carcinogenic ingredients.
