Brazil Extends 0.44 Real-Per-Liter Gasoline Subsidy For 30 Days

Brazil's Finance Ministry said on Thursday that the government will extend its gasoline subsidy of 0.44 real per liter for another 30 days, starting July 26, after an escalation in Middle East conflict pushed up global oil prices. The subsidy was set to expire on July 25. Finance Minister Dario Durigan said the extension will be funded by higher government revenue from rising oil prices, including petroleum royalties. The ministry also said Brazil had cut part of its diesel subsidy in late June when tensions eased and oil prices fell, but the decline did not last; the current diesel subsidy of 1.12 reals per liter remains in effect, according to 36Kr.
