Argentina's government is advancing plans to ease capital market rules and allow mutual investment funds to invest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, while also permitting virtual assets to be used as collateral. According to Odaily, the proposal is part of a deregulation bill drafted by Economy Minister Federico Sturzenegger and is awaiting President Javier Milei's signature before being sent to Congress.
The draft would allow mutual investment funds to allocate assets to virtual assets and create funds for qualified investors. It also limits the National Securities Commission's oversight of mutual funds to legality and technical solvency checks, while the central bank would exclusively regulate infrastructure for the registration or transfer of crypto and tokenized assets. The proposal would also allow stocks, convertible bonds and other securities to be issued, stored and traded through crypto networks.
